About
Hi, Max here.
I study Philosophy and Economics at the University of Chicago.
I'm also:
- Co-founder and CEO of Theseus Holdings, an organization working across capital, research, and media to accelerate civilizational progress. Theseus Capital invests in and operates businesses that remain scarce and valuable in the coming age of abundance. Its research arm, Theseus Labs, is researching and building principled-thinking AI.
- Co-founder of Fido, a financial technologies platform rebuilding SMB financing infrastructure from first principles.
- Co-founder and board member of the Future Priorities Institute, an organization seeding a new generation of deeply philosophical thinker-doers who will manifest technology's destiny toward human flourishing.
I also write about philosophy, technology, and our future.
My life's eidos is simple: I want to work on hard, meaningful problems, with brilliant people, and be of service to the species.
Things I am currently thinking about and/or working on:
- The economics of transformative AI.
- Moving toward defining a science of progress: how and why we innovate, and whether there are limits to innovation for our wellbeing.
- Esoteric vs. exoteric truths and the intrinsic motivations of the powers that be.
- Upper limit of LLMs: will the path to superintelligence necessitate fundamentally new architectural paradigms? If so, what are they and how will we build them?
- The mechanics of complex adaptive systems and our progress toward automation, approached as a philosophical project as much as a technical one.
- Charter cities and the founding of new jurisdictions: what becomes possible when institutions are designed from scratch rather than inherited.
